Default First pike

I went out on the river today after some pike and hooked into a couple of nice beasts.
I could actually see the takes as the water was so clear and quite shallow.
One fish was about 8-9lb and the other was about 12-14lb,both gave a good account for themselves and my hands were trembling removing the hooks.
Both fish were quite heavily battle scarred from past confrontations with their big brothers/sisters.
Also had 2 brownies on the pike flies.
Cheers
Simon

Nice first outing Simon... well done. Be in control and use forceps

I was amazed the first time a rainbow took a pike fly... now I'm not - bit of a nuisance by catch Had a couple more 'bows yesterday as well as a pike...

the bigger fish are easier unhook, i hate unhooking a treble out of a 1-4lb pike(that with barbless hooks)

Hi,
I was rather pleased with the outcome but was reliably informed that the best is yet to come when the females start to spawn and become a bit more feroucious.Bigger fish to be found in the lakes apparently.
Something to look forward to.
Cheers
Simon

Well done Simon.

There is nothing like catching a nice Pike or two.

Simon

Pre-spawn females are OK but when they get to spawning in the shallows it is best to give them a rest and let them spawn in peace. Target them post spawn once they are on the feed again... they are very stressed during spawning and don't go back well...

Good advice there David. Just wish more people would take heed!
