Hi all,

Have been using American Fishing Wire - Surflon Micro Ultra - Knottable Leader Material for a couple of seasons now for my Pike fly fishing and am very happy with my set up.
I was just wondering if any other pike fly fishers use the same stuff for tippit trace and know where I can get some lower than 26lb breaking strain in the UK.

Rob its the only stuff i will use.

Well i use the Supreme as its even thinner and more limp.

I am lucky as i work for the distributor here in the UK.

Have a look at the Supreme instead of the Ultra and i think you will find you don't need to go any lighter.

Saying that when i am after Perch on the fly and there is a chance of a Pike i have some 11lb supreme that is superb.

I use wire that comes out of the same factory as AFW and is half the price It's the only stuff I'll use

cheers for the info WCB but from what i can see the supreme it about twice the price as ultra.

It is more expensive but its superb stuff.

Offshore AFW is made by themselves so are you sure its the same stuff?

Maybe they are doing some OEM stuff as well.

I too am a great fan of Surflon Micro Supreme. Harris Sportmail used to do it in various sizes from 11lb bs with free P&P but they are out of stock. I emailed them months ago and they said they were 'having difficulties finding a supplier'.

I know there are very similar coated 7x7 strand wires out there used for jewelry making for a fraction of the price but I have not been able to find a suitable retailer. I'd be very happy if someone else has and could pass on a link.

The only people I have found who do the 20lb is Tacklebargains but they only have it in 'bright now and I prefer 'camo'. Watch out for the P&P charge though as it may be prohibitive if you are only buying one spool!

I read somewhere too that arts and craft wire was the same, in lots of colours as well.
As to locating a shop in the UK that sells camo ultra under 26lb forget it. Nearly £10 for 5 meters of supreme is hard to justify though I might try it.
It doesn't help that I cant seam to get my Internet to connect to half of the online tackle shops today.
WCB are there any other shops you supply it to or can you sell direct (off the back of the lorry)

Their website claims it has been discontinued. I've emailed them to see if they have any plans to restock it so it will be interesting to see what they say.

Colour doesn't seem to bother pike... I use the clear version but have read that you can colour the wire with a permanent marker...
