you may want to check the venue allows Fly Fishing, I have talked to a couple who do and a couple who deny fly fishing on the lakes

Its at Emberton park near Olney, just checked and they don't allow fly fishing. That's my get out of jail free card then.

well, if hes anything like my brother (keen carp fisherman) he'll have 40 spare rods and reels and loads and loads of gear, so you may still be "asked" to go and he will "lend" you the gear for the day

Default Fishery Rules

Just had a look at the fishery rules. There is no mention of any restrictions on tackle.

If you were allowed to fly fish the lake, I would set up to fish for pike.

The river might be a better bet, you could fish for the chub with dries, and nymph for the barbel.

Oh yes, he has enough gear to sink a battleship, so you may be right, I might need another excuse
