Default Carp Help!!!

Hi,

Slightly frustrating afternoon's fishing yesterday, located a big shoal of carp in local river of all sizes, threw Hares Ear's, Emergers, Damsel Nymphs and Pellet Flies at them but no joy! Moved one to Damsel Nymph and another briefly inspected the Pellet Fly. I reckon the Pellet Fly didn't work as I didn't have any ground bait. But no success Tried a number of different retrieves and dead drfiting the fly.

I understand there will be days as with any fishing you just can't move a fish, but any thoughts on what to try next time. Any tips with the carp?

Managed a bream oddly though of about 5-6lb on surprisingly fast retrieve on the damsel nymph! Which was a first

Many thanks

Try a pink nymph, they seem to work for me.

Cheers, Dave.

Cheers chaps, Offshore I can't argue with that persistance probably is the best strategy

Do they ever take buzzers?

Yes they do take buzzers and bloodworm flies. PTN is also a good fly. If you are fishing a river then fish the fly dead drift rather than retrieving it in front of their noses.

Default Carp on fly

100 yards from Admin's office is a superb carp lake and is a great favourite of ours and our visitors! Pellet flies are undoubtedly the best after some loose feed but we also get them on nymphs. Average size around 8lbs and largest we have had is 16lbs. When feeding can catch 4 or so an hour!

We use 6 weight rods with floating lines and Fulling Mill carp flies (www.sportfish.co.uk) or some we tie ourselves. Light relief from the rigours of the Forum

Richard

Not far from my office(sorry Richard) we have carp and they have been caught on bloodworms, fritz patterns and buzzers also deer hair patterns when they are mulling about on the top in hot weather has a really good chance of one.
If they are feeding naturally then a dog biscuit or boilie doesnt interst them from what I have seen.
fascinating fish to watch and growth rates are something else.

Cheers for further responses, I'll try the dead drifting the flies and persist with the nymphs, hopefully I'll get a chance for a quick chuck again at the weekend...

Try some large dry flies...if you can see them...drop it with a small arrival..so they can tell it land and then if ones comes and has a look at it do nothing..if it refuses next time one comes give it a twitch this works for me..

Also if you can see them lying next to the reeds land the fly line so just the dry falls of reeds into there area...deadly...

if it still does nt work half a loaf of bread in chunks...livens them up too
