Default Whatever this ugly lump is, its my first on the fly

A short outing to some local coarse lakes to fool around with some of my vintage glass rods turned up this.
Bream? Carp? About 6lb. Hoovered up a #6 woolly b twitched slowly, and fought even worse than a chub -
I didn't think that possible!! Lethargic in the heat I guess.

Makes the fenwick FF837's brown finish and spiral wraps look positively handsome!

common/bronze bream (abramis bramis) an old fish judging by its darkness.

Yes a bream , and as has been said it is an old fish . Did you have fun with the slime ??? As you dont get that with trout do you ??

Abramis brama actually.
Yes - an old fish, probably between 10 & 20 years old.

We have plenty in the Dee at Chester: these fight like wet sacks but are positively athletic compared to those found in the meres.
