Default Prototype Popper

Hi Guys

Re-resent posts regarding success of poppers got me thinking and experimenting

Here goes MKI tied on Ad swier 4/0 and recycled wine cork no idea if it will perfom or even float

Hope to try it tomorrow .........."if" it works i will spend more time painting up the MKII

Im wondering if i will have to use a lighter hook, as these Ad Swier hooks are pretty heavy !! We shall see....................

That hook will never sink that fly , there is enough cork there to refloat the Titanic

Hope the fly works , it should do .......

it would be better if you reduce the size of the face of the cork a bit and taper the cork down to the body of the fly somewhat to match the size of the front of the hackle ??

Thumbs up Field test

Hi Guys

Well i took the proto type popper up the canal today really casting more than fishing, i have to say its an experince to cast ! But my Vision GT Four 9' 9# handled it very well, i would fancy trying to chuck such a fly on anything smaller

First impression................ it makes a great impact on hitting the water its bound to attract attention, quick short pulls results in "huge" displacement of water which was the idea its sends ripples all over the place and makes alot of noise too whick was my intention.

And yes it floats very well indeed !! As said this is a proto type improvements ?? yes i reckon taper the back end of the cork, however the front end blunt cut sloping back does the business i shall be leaving that alone ! Although i was wondering if a "V" notch in the front might make more "splosh" than the currnet profile ???

A bit of paint wouldnt go a missed either , not sure its needed just make it look better.

On the whole i would say a success

Now for the MK II

I would add something lighter for a tail (synthetic or bucktail) and put a weed guard on it to help skip it across Lily pads etc., but that's just me. Looks Good though

In my opinion the zonker strips are as good as you'll get for a tail. In fact i would suggest using two, they kick like frogs legs and look awesome. I tie mine with two zonker strips, some straggle fritz for a body and red cock hackle over that, they work a treat

Is the front face concave?

If not try and sculpt the cork so it is. This gives a real good "bloop" when pulled.
