Default hooked carp

hi guys
I was at my local trout lake today. Trout werent playing too hot! There were about 6 grass carp feeding 90ft away. Had a klinkhammer on. Cast it out and BANG a carp had taken the fly. I have never hooked a carp before and the power was emence. Had it on for a couple of minutes when it shot under a snag and it parted. My 5 weight didnt know what hit it.
I am well and truely hooked into fly fishing for carp, though I know see why you need a heavier rod.
regards John

hi john had a similar thing happen to me last weekend
as im new to this fly fishing lark i went down to my local lake with the intension of catching rudd and some casting practice any way about half way through the day i could see a good dozen or so mirror carp cruising just under the surface so i put on a mayfly type thing and nothing happened so swapped over to a gold headed bloodworm type of thing again a good hour passed nothing so in all honesty kind of gave up on the fishing and practised casting well after a couple of mediocre casts i was getting quite fed up but carried on after a cup of tea performed one of my best casts and pulled the line back very fast then bang thought i had snagged the bottom then off it went can honestly say never felt anything like it the best 30 secs fishing ever my 12lb line just went ping and that was the end of that but by god was it good will be going back to have another crack at it

Boony,

Big klinks are my best dry fly for carp...and do seem to work really well for grass carp...dry damsel dries as well!

thanks ed
will have to tie up some damsel dry flies. I was going to go to a carp lake with dog bicis, but after this i think i will just use dry flies.
regards john
