Default First carp on the fly

Barlow fisheries, nice sunny day and lots of trout and carp rising i started the morning on a stalking bug and had a few smallish rainbows on that and then moved on to a small hopper going after a few of the browns in the brooke that runs along side the lakes at barlow. Only had one fish a small brown about half a pound then i moved on to the carp as it came to midday and it was a bit bright for trout. After fishing on a deer hair god buicsuit like fly for an hour and a half with no interest i switched to targeting the trout with a size 14 klink of a brown colouring after yet more fish refusing to even look at the fly i saw a carp feeding on the edge of some surface weeds so i cast straight at it and for once it actually went where i wanted it to and the carp came up and took it better than all of the takes i'd had all day after a 10ish minute fight a quich photo then weighed then put back to fight another day and yes to any people who are wondering the fight from a carp on a fly rod is absolutely phenominal!!!!!!!and its a new personal best for me since with my course fishing i've only ever caught carp up to 13 pounds and this one was just over 14 and a half!

Nice one! They certainly go on light tackle and my new trick is to use a 3# - just so long as there are no snags around.

Nice fish there, very well done. They are great on a fly rod aren't they? I had several a couple of weeks back, and the fight is amazing.

Now go and do it again!!!

Nice sunny winters day and they will be up and feeding again. Handful of mixers into the wind, follow the drift and let the carp find the biccies.

Nice fish, as everyone seems to agree, carp do go like a rocket!

I found this great two part article a couple of weeks back at http://www.flyfishersrepublic.com/ta...rp-on-the-fly/. I have to agree with the writers sentiments.

Having caught them both via both baiting and stalking them on nymph or dry fly, the later is by far the best challenge!

Hope you enjoy the article, I did.

Steve
