What about the Leeds/Liverpool Canal? I only know it a bit around Bradford and Skipton but have heard of some goodish fish in it. Dunno about the Liverpool end at all, sorry. The benefit of canal fishing is you know you can nearly always cover the fish as they're never likely to be out of casting range?

The canals are full of jacks, which are great on lure rod.

In NW UK I assume you mean the Western Highlands of Scotland?

You'll need a Waterway Wanderers ticket and a grand cost of £15... for a good selection of the canal system.

The Leeds to liverpool is stuffed with pike, the bottom end is better than further out (Melling to Halsall)...Plenty of doubles in there.. though also a multitude of Smaller fish.. Season ticket needed from The Liverpool & District AC.. not expensive...

The Dee at Chester is also is also a good bet....

The River Crossens in Southport has a good head up to 20 plus....Don't know where the tickets are bought now though. It used to be the garage on the dual carriage, L/hand carriage way, way past the bridge over the Crossens, on the way to Ormskirk from S/port..
