Default Colour "Blue"

Hi Guys

I was thinking about a TV program i saw a while back, Matt Hayes fishing lures in sweden? or Norway ? He was talking to a guy who invented a type of lure if i remember correctly ?

The guy said that in there country "blue" was a very popular colour for pike lures Matt told him it is not a popular colour over here...........

Got me thinking has anyone played with "blue" pike flys Its not a colour that leaps to the mind to try out ..............

Yup saw that programme and they were Zalt lures... Baltic pike are after saltwater fish so maybe blue does good... I've infact bought some blue & pink hair extensions today (don't laugh) to see what they tie like... from a cheap scally tat shop!!

Not really used blue flies myself but a friend asked me tie him some blue flashabou flies for going to Spain as apparently the Bass over there are suckers for blue flies.

I have done a ton of lure fishing over the years and found blue to be a terrible colour in the UK, have had success with the colour fishing abroad though, certainly wont be rushing to tie and blue flys!

i think "blue" might work better in the sea as alot of sea fish have blue on them.... it has alot to do with light and water clarety i think.

Blue has been absolutely bobbins for me for freshwater preds (not so for saltwater though!) I have no confidence at all with blue. But a friend who I kind of mentored lure fishing last yr made up his own mind on colours and absolutely loves the blue salmo slider, it being one of his most successful baits, his Pike love it, plenty of them too!

Same for redheads, another mate murders them, I cannot buy a take!

But then I cannot catch on a super shad!

Purely a confidence thing?

Some of the artifical flash hair gives off a blue tinge. Don't forget that colours come and go at different depths with some stronger than others. Can't remember which disappears first at what depth but I bet someone out there does.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there. What with the Baltic being salty and all that.

red is the first colour to disappear in the uv spectrum i believe i did know the depth that this takes place but i've forgotten.

i've caught a couple of pike on blue lures too but then again in the water i used them you could catch on near enough any colour
