Craig

Look for :

Overhanging trees/branches
Rafts of debris
Undercut banks (one of the favourite chub haunts
Outside of bends on river
Pools
Steady glides
Creases

basically think like a piece of bread... if you were a piece of bread thrown into a river, where would the stretch in front of you naturally take you? Or where would you end up getting stuck? Thats where you will find chub.

They are very competitive so you will often find them, and the larger of the groups, at the head of a raft rather than the end.

Ive always found, (unless piling in a load of bait, which in flyfishing circles is irrelevant) that chub spook easily. After that initial surge they tend to lose the fight, but it will kill the swim. So for good chub fishing you will need to take a roving approach on the fly i feel, (i stand to be corrected, this advise is from a coarse angler i havent cast a fly as yet) so be prepared to cover some miles! Luckily they are a fish that will feed right through the winter so now is as good a time as any.

Good luck

Craig I reckon they'll be hangin' out with all the other little Chub's at the Chub cafe, the Chub Chippy, the Chub leisure centre and last but not least " The Chub Pub "

You might find one or two on the Chub forum too.

Keep that to yourself mind.
