POWAN.The freshwater herring.
Powan were coming under theat from illegally introduced Ruffe In Loch Lomond
so SNH took the decision to relocate some in othe suitable waters, carron and Sloy. the fish in Carron appear to be thriving. In Lomond shoals used to be thousands strong and they were netted for food, but they're size was a lot smaller than the fish now in Carron, protected because of real risk of extinction.
PS It appears that only in larger wieghts do they becaome available to anglers,as smaller fish seem to be filter or plankton eaters.
