Default Having Fun

I joined a trout lake a couple of years ago with a view to going along the odd evening., However, I thought it would be a good idea to practice/improve casting etc., on my local Norfolk rivers before thrashing the water into a foam on a trout lake. I have really enjoyed it - so much so that I have still not been to the trout lake! It's all free and I rarely see anyone else. I basically go for a walk and talk my fly rod. So far I have caught Perch, Rudd, Dace and small Chub.

I have coarse-fished for carp at a nearby lake and they go absolutely crazy for bread crust and dog biscuits - I have never seen anything like it! So, with my improved casting and confidence I took myself back there to try and tempt a carp off the top with a fly. It actually turned out to be more successful than conventional gear. I had five or six off the top with the biggest about 6lb. They all fought like demons too on my light rod.

My next challenge are roach, pike and mullet at Lowestoft!

Well done Tedster its good to see someone catching coarse fish on the fly from a river keep at it. Try your trout fishery as well, like Jim said trout go well on light tackle!
Keep an open mind and try and catch as many different species as you can on the fly, you will be amazed at what will take a fly.....
Yesterday I caught a small flatfish on a fly how wierd is that!

Bugsplat - like I said i hardly ever see anyone about. Have to talk to someone!
When I said flies, well they are, sort of, just tied to look like dog biscuits. i used Dragon Carp Flies from reelfishing website.
Yep, I will keep at it. I have plenty of stretches of river to try which I found over the years either coarse fishing or canoeing. Have seen some big brown trout and carp on the wensum and will one day give them a go. Might try an get in a couple of evenings at the trout lake.
