Default Pike Fly Fishing around Glasgow?

Hi guys!

Neil & I quite fancy trying our hand at Pike on the fly.. Anyone know of anywhere around Glasgow? I am aware of a few but just wondering if anyone knows the hotspots.

Thanks in advance...

Debbie..

Pike thrive on neglect - try and find somewhere that noone else fishes - or that lots of people fish but in a totally different way.

I have been having a lot of fun with Pike over the last week or so...

Give me a shout through the blog and we can meet up!

Thanks guys,

urbanflyman - Quite fancy trying the canal sometime soon as it's not too far away. Where can I get a permit?

aliferste - I've been following your Pike outings through your blog - great stuff. Will give you a shout soon for a day after "Preditor"

pike_fly_angler - Ta, will send dave lindsey an email shortly.

Does the Glasgow Angling Centre sell a good selection of Pike flies or am I better off online?

Thanks....

Debbie..

Try Castle Semple just the other side of Glasgow Airport. If memory serves me right you take the A737 just past the airport. It is not deep and it is wade-able. There is some good fish in it as well.

r.e. Castle Semple Loch.

Wouldn't recommend wading IMO.

The North bank (railway side) and the river mouth is fishable with a Castle AC permit - day ticket from Graham at Rods and Reels in Johnstone.
A permit for the South available from the Ranger station at the loch.
Don't know the prices of the day tickets, sorry.

Castle AC has a boat available, engine and key from Graham as above.
He also has a good selection of pike flies, but Mark beat me to it - speak to Dougie for flies - perch, roach and tinsel flies for Castle Semple should see you OK.

Barr loch has some very nice fish in it too, limited amount of rods, don't know how access works for a day ticket, but permission from the RSPB centre up from Castle Semple towards the train station.

HTH,
Tony
