Funny you ask, im searching for good "constant" perch flies rather than flies that catch the odd perch

Last night i caught three.............. two on size ten pearl cormorant and one on a size 14 poacher on the dropper floating line , shallow loch 7# 10' rather over gunned but i was playing the first time with my new float tube

Check out global fly fisher there used to be an article plus good pics, german i think ?? Ive tied up a few today to try soon.

I would be interested too in hearing from "perch fly" guys who go out and "target" perch.

Hi guys, over here in Australia some guys have had success with tom jones and alexandra patterns. I will be trying these on my local river in the next couple of weeks, will let you know if I have any success.

Cheers, Dave.

Never tried fly fishing for perch, but knowing that they are highly predatory - even the small ones, I'd have thought fry patterns would be a good starting point. Red is a trigger colour for perch too, so try something with some red in it.

Perch are very obliging they will take a wide variety of flies, lures are good but do not forget nymphs as well. Any rod will do as long as it is quite light ie a 4 or a 5 wt rod will do nicely. combine this with a floating line and a 3 to 4 lb tippet and you are away.
most trout lures will take perch also use nymphs like pheasant tails, gold ribbed hares ear, and red tag type flies. Also make sure they have a gold bead at the head.
Fish the flies deep and close to features and obstructions and give them plenty of life!Click the image to open in full size.

Perch often follow in my 6"+ pike flies, a smaller version of the same would work - eg woolly ****** or fry pattern wets

Perch will have just about anything you pull past them although I have found a Yellow bucktail or yellow/orange combination to be effective........

Default wow, nice fish

I do not think that I have seen more than a couple of yellow perch as nice as this one.

One other fly that I catch a perch on once in a while is a bead head woolybooger, with a little bit of flash in it. If you want to go subsurface, you are fishing for a small to medium sized predator, and cannot make up your mind what to fish with, you cannot go wrong with a woolybooger.

I've found a Sz 12 or 10 (long shank) black wooly ****** with a red tag works really well - they take aim at the tag - hooks them well.
