Default First Carp on the Fly Rod

Had an hour on a small estate lake that I'd been given permission to fish.. most enjoyable. Three carp to 5lbs... biggest below.

Happy Days!

Well done John, they really fight well on the fly.

Cheers, Dave.

I have to say that I was a little disapointed by the fight - nowhere near as powerful as trout. Although I was using fairly robust tackle.
Fun, though, whatever.

Jon,

Good fun isn't it though? That is, I had a similar experience last week and thought it was pretty good. I too was allowed to fish a private pond near where I live and caught 7 of them, while another five got away. What tactics did you employ? I may be crucified for admitting this, but I caught mine on a fly that resembles white bread, just a bunch of dyed white deer hair tied to a hook. That's because I knew how those carp over there react to bread, as a lot of locals there feed the ducks.

Best regards,

Rick

Hi Rick.. yep, same.. a deer hair bread fly. No shame in that.. I was imitating something carp eat.

Top fun and I'll be having a go for some pike on the fly in late Autumn.

Cheers

Jon

Jon, good to know that great minds think alike

Come to think of it though, the first one (a baby carp) actually took a black palmered cdc dry fly, however the bigger ones ignored that fly completely.
I hope to go back this week and see if I can improve my record.

Cheers,

Rick
