Bit hard to see in that little picture, but it looks large!

What size was it? Are you sure it's an Ide? What did it take?

Questions, questions!

Cheers,

jrwi

Hi Jrwi Unfortunately I was not carrying my scales with me, so I have laid the fish on my landing net and next to the rod to try and give an idea of its size.
The rod is a 3/4 wt with matching reel. The landing net measures from the hinge to the tip of the frame 20 inches or 51 cm and as you can see it is as long as the net.
I am quite sure its an ide, due to the small scales and head, there are quite a lot round here now. Unless anybody knows otherwise, or can shed more light on the species.
The fish was caught on a 0.12mm tippet (3.3lb) and a size 14 gold bead nymph.
The fly had a body of peacock herl, a red wool tag and gold bead at the head with a rib of gold wire. It was a pattern I found on a netherlands fly fishing website.
I was lucky that day as the fish seemed really eager for the fly as I had a few follows as well.

To us ignorant game flyfishers, what the f#'k is an Ide? Think i've heard of it. Is it true you only get them in March

I don't think they are Ben. They're found in large numbers in mainland Europe, particularly The Danube.

Those Ide are a regular catch on some rivers near where I live.
I however never caught one, this weekend I am going to try though.
