Default Flyfishing june 2nd.

During a three day trip to southern Germany I encountered a
quite hefty chub in the river I fished.
A mayfly put in front of the chub was enough temptation for
the chub to have a go at it, my best chub till now.

Fat chub.

I was fishing for trout but the chub was a welcome bycatch since I never had seen such a big fish at close range.
It was terribly hot and the river was extremely low.

Well done Marcel that is a fantastic chub, did you weigh the fish?
Big chub put up a good fight, what tackle did you use to land that monster?
I cannot believe the size of it
Is that a miniature rod and reel

Wow, that's one nice chub. I bet it put up a heck of a fight on a fly rod, and obviously it counts more being caught on the fly

It's been years since my last chub.......

Yes, I must confess I use mini rods and reels
The rod is an Orvis trout bum 7ft #4 with the smallest version of the
Battenkill large arbor reel.
Just for reference the length from the end of the cork handle to the cap on the reelseat is 24 cm so the fish was still quite large despite my outfit.

On that very hot day I fished near a hydro-electric plant, the main body of water went through the turbine channel that bypassed the river.
A trickle of water still flowed over the old riverbed.
I did not expect much at that stretch but to my surprise several large rainbows and the chub where present and all where interested in the mayfly I was serving

Below the weir, spotted some monsters there but could
not get them.

Rainbow trout that fell for the mayfly.

What a nice peice of water that is, very clear as well. Thats a well fed rainbow you have caught, looks in good condition. Looks like you had a good day, do all your rivers fish well?

Well it was not exactly my river - when living in the Netherlands you will have to go abroad to get to nice rivers.

This particular river was in the deep south of Germany, about 60km east of Lake Constance.
A very pretty river in the Allgau area near the Swiss/Austrian border.

That sounds a long way to go just to go fishing!
