Default Carp on a Woolly ******?

I recently caught a 15lb Mirror Carp on a blonde coloured woolly ****** - on a five weight!?

Anyone else had such luck, or have I found the holy grail for carp fishing with a fly rod?

And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream,
And caught a little silver trout.

Well done Sewinman, that carp must of given you a real runaround! It is not uncommon for carp to take small fish baits, the woollybugger may have looked like a small fish fry.
The other week I caught a small jack pike on a green woollybugger!

Carp will readily take a wooly ****** and tadpole flies. I have used sweetcorn flies wolly buggers, and blood worm patterns to great effect through the winter and so far this season they are taking blobs and boobies with avengence.
shall get the photos posted soon.

I've had pike and chub on woolybuggers, but not carp. That must have been a hell of a fight!

I got hold of a small selection of woolly buggers a few seasons back after I'd read that they were a useful carp fly, but for whatever reason I've never tried them. Thanks for the reminder, I might give them a blast next time I'm out!

What were you actually targeting, Sewinman? And, probably more importantly, how were you fishing it, as in depth and retrieve? My plan with the WBs was always to fish them as a big nymph. I'm starting to get the idea that I do better with the carp on bigger flies because they see them better (I think they've got quite poor eye sight, relying more on scent), and I've been getting better results with Damsels than Diawl Bachs and buzzer in the waters I fish, for example.

Congratulations - The carp I catch only run up to about 6lbs, but even they go some on a five weight!

hi guys i have only just managed to get back online.
Well fished yesterday in the morning and had some fantastic browns on a local river.
Then went to he club lakes for carp; fished WB's for 3 hours results:

common carp = 7 fish to 13lb
mirror carp = 4 fish to 14lb 2oz.
Perch = 2 not weighed

Following this ifished with a single blood worm buzzer (flexifloss)

Common carp = 4 fish to 17lb 9oz
Mirror carp = 2 fish to 15lb 1oz.
Tench = 6lb 1 fish
Perch = 4 fish not weighed
Roach = 3 fish not weighed

Bllodworm fished for 3 hours.

The largest carp were the easiest to land the smaller average size fish fight less not burn out quicker.
Though the rod isnt casting right after the 17lb common.

Still going for that 32lber in the main lake though.
Fellow anger has promised to email over photos for me. Shall get the posted when i get them.
