Hi and welcome to the forum. Yes I have fished for Mullet on the fly. I use a piece of Ramer baby sponge from Boots the Chemist tied to a short shank size 10 hook. I hav'nt caught many but the fish I did put up a tremendous fight. Torness Power Station seems the place to go on the east coast of southern Scotland. If you know of any reiable patters i'm waiting. Bob

Will be tying up some flies and having a look around the harbours and estuaries near Scarborough. I fly fish for pollack and mackeral so looking to try new species. Google maps will help.

Going back a few years you could catch mullet from the harbour wall at Brid and also the bay to the East of Thornwick bay where the stream flowed into the sea.

Sorry to the OP for going off topic, I've never fly fished for them, I used to use bread.

I wouldn't mind giving it a go. I saw a father and his young son fishing for them in the Severn last year. The spot was Sharpness docks in Gloucestershire. Although about 20-30 miles from the sea the river is very tidal around Sharpness. I saw the Mullet, about a dozen of them 20' below us cruising around the legs of a jetty. Solid looking boys they were to. The lads were using bread and said they do catch them.

As for a fly...best be white and look like a piece of bread flake I guess. Pre-baiting with a few flakes should get them in the mood. Not to the purists taste no doubt-but I bet it's to the Mullets taste

Chris.

very exciting fishing for them i start fishing for them at the harbour as you get folk in the summer going down the beach with picnics and what have you takeaway meals and throwing it into the water that gives the mullet a steady food supply and there really easy to spot aswel what isnt to bad lol
