Question Fly fishing in Florida.

Going to Florida next year with the school on a science trip. One of the science teachers is a fly fisherman so I'm sure he will let we take a travel rod. It is in Orlando and we have some free time on a island and I think I might try some fishing, not sure what species and what fly, or even if fly fishing is the best option. Advice would be useful.

Is the bone fish there? Cuba is not far away and that is a top spot for sport on the fly

Depends what time of year and where. Florida has Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Black Tip Sharks, Lemon Sharks, Jacks, Ladyfish, and much much more. There are pockets of peacock bass as well which make a different afternoon fishing.

Regards,

Ed

Do I kneed to register again or is it the same user and pass? I thing Tarpon fishing is too much. Fishing from the beach for a few hours in the evening, that is what I'm looking for. When we go to the island by Mexico it is a small island and they are going to nett it for seahorses ect. I'll cast a lure and see what I'll get.

Snook are probably a better bet for you from the beaches, especially at night around docks

You'll need to get a fishing permit (or a guide). February that far north will depend on the weather. If the jet stream pushes down and you get a cold snap it will all be off. Species that time of year are more likely to be snook, redfish, ladyfish and gator trout (plus bluefish along the beaches). Post in the saltwater section for more help. Very good fishing in the Cape Canaveral area, Mosquito Lagoon.
