Default Old Patterns for Chub and Dace

I was browsing through some older fly-fishing books and found these patterns, they are now in an article on my web-site.
I have not been able to dress any yet, but the recipes might be of interest.

Works for me, arjxh56 did you click on the ">" button at the bottom?

Thanks Donald, would be nice to see some photos of the flies. Have you fished any of them? How did you get on?

Interesting.

My father in law is Dutch, and has just got interested in fishing the polders for coarse fish. He got hold of an c. 1930s Dutch book recommending patterns for the polders, and they are almost identical.

Even now, the favourite in his area seems to be red tags, or variants thereof.

Chaps,

It is not particularly about old school patterns but if you can get hold of a copy then I shall recommend you this:

Fly-Fishing for Coarse Fish: Amazon.co.uk: Willim J. Howes: Books Fly-Fishing for Coarse Fish: Amazon.co.uk: Willim J. Howes: Books

How to catch them series - fly fishing for coarse fish (in case the link would not work)

Very nice book and there is a lot of info in it. Try to get some of the other books of the series as well. Dace, roach, chub and perch are all very good too.

Tight lines,

Pete

I will agree with Pete the "fly fishing for coarse fish" by wj Howes is a great little book, and can still be found on ebay.
Another good book is the "observers book of fly fishing" This little book covers quite a bit of fly fishing for coarse fish as well.
I often try these older patterns of flies and it was only last week when I caught a roach on a red tag variant from a trout fishery! It is still a great fly'

I still haven't tied any of them yet. Trouble living in Scotland,
it is easier to go trout fishing, I'll try and dress them and show
them on the web-site.
They are recommended by Roger Woolley and John Turton,
can't get much better than that.
