Cool Carp on the surface

I am fishing for carp all next week in the 4 to 10lb bracket and as I am also taking a fly fishing rod for a day at Cound I might just do a bit of sneaky fly fishing for a carp for a bit of fun.

The carp are plentiful and will readily take bread off the surface and I was thinking of just trying an all white dry fly.

Is this the way to go or would a daddy targeted at fish cruising near the surface be good.

I've never seen anyone using dog biscuits but is that the way to go.I would be looking to be very discreet in order not to upset any other angler. Prehaps waiting untill one of the lakes is free of other anglers.
Cheers
Philip

Why not drop the pretence and just pinch a bit of bread on a bare hook?
Or you could use a bread fly, there was a guy selling them on ebay.
I've often wondered about the dog biscuit thing - I have trouble casting a lead head nymph, never mind a dog bicuit!

Time for the purists to pounce.

Yes I did think about the bread on a bear hook but wouldn't it just fly off when you tried to cast.

Is there anyone on here who will tie up some of these bread flies for me.

There is nothing purist about about my fishing. I just love catching fish and trying different ways of catching 'em.

Partride make artificial bread I used it in france last year it will not come of the hook ever....You should get some online or from a good tackle shop

Here it is...http://www.partridge-of-redditch.co....ait/page27.htm

It does work but yu need to get carp going on freebies first....

Some days it seemed to work best just nicked on the hook, But I also found it worked really well if you hair rigged it with a bait band so that the elastic held it tight against the shank of the hook,,

They dont half go well on fly gear, Make sure you have plenty of backing ,,,,

I was gonna suggest artificial bread but you beat me to it Coasty. Enterprise make a version of it too, I haven't used it myself but if it's as good as their artificial sweetcorn, maggots and pellets it will be excellent.

Check out the "Carp Properly on the Fly" thread further down in this section. Plenty of information about how to do it properly there, ie no biscuit chumming no bread flies. You're bait fishing anyway, if you want it easy then just catch them on a floating crust. If you want to fly fish why not try and do it properly, its a challenge but by no means impossible. And yes you can just catch them on a bushy white dry but theres lots of other possibilities.
