Nice session Kenny it's been a good week for me in term of numbers of fish still nothing majorly big but there all good fun on a fly rod

How do you get the floating head on the pike flies please?

Hi Richard,there are many ways to put the heads on,everyone has there own way.I just tbought a sheet of thin foam and cut a semi circle place it on with super glue and small clamp ,then same with eyes.You tube will show you many videos on tying.Just type in Fly Tying.

hi all.
never fished for pike before,really want to have a go.but i don't know where to start!!is my normal 10ft 7/8 rod enough?what breaking strain fluro will i need and what about wire traces??haven't got a clue about fly colours/patterns,iv'e heard they take trout flies aswell??deep or near the surface??so many things i dont know!!!!

I'll keep it brief as I don't want to hijack Kenny's thread, but I don't believe a 7/8 weight rod is sufficient. A 9/10 weight is more suitable, as not only will you need to cast large heavy flies, you'll subdue the fish much quicker, without playing it to death.

If you never fished for Pike before, I'd suggest you go with someone who has, as they're a fragile fish and can be tricky to handle and unhook quickly when you don't know what you're doing.
