Just to try and help. The first 30 feet of your line is what gives the AFTM (association of fishing tackle manufactures) rating. A longer belly on a line will give you more weight for quicker loading of the rod. Fishing a 12 weight on a 9 weight rod with large pike fly will over load rod. Skagit lines have a very thick short head for casting big steelhead flies similar to pike flies and this needs a totally different style of cast. More like a spey cast. To cast it normal overhead could snap rod. Be careful with short heavy heads on lines and mixing it up unless its tried and tested.
