Smile What Arctic Charr on a Floating line

Yes we have had some great feed back to our six species which were stocked at Cound last month. Where in the world can you catch Charr on Buzzers and Dries on a Floating line? COUND. visit www.coundtroutfishery.com

How do you work out that there are six diferent species?

"The lake is stocked every week to maintain its 6500 fish from 1 1/2 to 20 lb +, there are six different species of fish and to my knowledge there is no other fishery in the country that has the same to offer. Browns, Rainbows, Blues, Brookies, Tigers and (Arctic Char to be stocked on the 1st April 2008.)"

Are there any not mentioned then?

Where did your "Arctic" Charr originate - Icelandic fish farm stock?

I'm horrified

Having been at Cound last week and witnessed the capture of an Arctic Char I can assure you, having caught wild char in Scotland, that these are indeed Arctic Char. I don't know where they're sourced but Arctic Char they are.

OK - 6 species........ maybe not, but 6 variations or types........ YES.

Well maybe if you use the double 'rr' they would be charr...

It would be reasuring to hear that they are descended from British Isles stock that have been here since the 'Ice Age' and not some genetic interloper...

If there is never a chance of them getting into systems that have pure charr strains in them; then maybe, they serve a purpose in helping people achieve catch ambitions etc.

They are also a favourite species of mine.

Selectively bred varieties of rainbows; or hybrids are not other species.
I suspect 'Trading Standards' would have to agree, if push came to a shove...

Where were you fishing for Charr in Sotland Lighthouse?

What did you catch them on?

Sinking line, buzzers or other?

Don

Default Artic Charr

Hold on a minute that's a bit harsh ( Trading standards ) Just because my use of the English language is not as good as some. OK I made a mistake in my wording. We have six different fish to catch. The Charr are trips from Canada. I thought people would be interested. I dont think I am going to use this forum again if thats the sort of replies I am going to get when all i am trying to do is let people know what i have to offer and trying to run a fishery as best I can. Working 7 days a week from 8 til dark so that people like yourself can come and have some good sport. Anyway nuff said.

"Push to a shove" means just that. I have no intention of reporting anyone; and I doubt if anyone else on this Forum will either.

I made my point ref varieties and not species.

I'm also reasured that the charr are triploid and therefore are not a threat to indiginous charr.

You may be a little upset; but I'm sure this thread will generate some extra custom for your fishery. I know there are several here who want to catch a charr.

If it's a good fishery; I hope Cound thrives.
Maybe some of your new customers will mention this thread, when they visit, and let me off the hook

I would like to catch a char, even an imported type, I caught an American brook trout once and thet was well worthwhile.

The spelling is variable, for some reason the two RR spelling became fashionable in Victorian times and it seems to have survived, in some circles, to the present day. Falkus and Buller used it, so I suppose we're stuck with it now.

How many char are in the lake and how often are they stocked? Is C&R practised much? It'll be interesting to see how they behave if they have a long life in the lake. Is the lake deep?

Give them unquiet dreams;

From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
