Hi
Sorry I have been away for so long, over the last year I had sort of lost the
will to fish, but something has been drawing me back to the
light.
Anyway, I have been meaning to post this Pike fly leader set-up for ages and I have finally got round to taking some photos (badly), so here it is!
Over the years I had tried every different methods, I am now convinced I have the best set up for me.
Firstly I use a small 2mm "O" ring which I thread the plastic coated wire leader through, then form a small loop and twist, close the loop using a melt knot. I use a length of about 18inches of the plastic coated wire leader. Then melt knot the fly to the other end. Simple ... No?
Plus side;
When casting the load transfers down the line well, and you get a great turn over. Which means unlike using snap links or spiral locks the fly never tangles around it's self, even in strong winds or due to poor casting (the set-up never breaks or pulls apart when being cast, unlike set ups using swivels or crimps).
Down side;
Each fly has to have its own wire leader, which takes some time to do, but it is well worth it.
Attaching flyies is the same as trout fishing, tie the nylon leader to the "O" ring (rather than the eye of the hook).
I hope you like it
