Default First saeson for Pike on the fly

Im hopeful of being accepted as a member of a club with two private lakes, one stocked with trout, one holding pike. I want to try for a pike on the fly this year, whats the best time for it???
I tie my own flies, so that wont be a problem. I have an 8/9 rod, and 8 floating line, but what trace should I use?

Best I've found is surflon 49 (7x7) strand - not the 19 strand - in 20lb altho' a bit pricey at £10 for 5m you'll get 30 traces out if it.

It knots well to hooks, try this knot leaving a 5mm tag

or knot to a sturdy crosslock snap to make changing flies easier and to preserve your traces (sportfish do one attached to a swivel, £2 for 10, size 2 or 4)

Wire to nylon tippet (20lb+) use a swivel, ring or albright knot

And for your flies, try the partridge ad swier barbless range 2/0

I second that. I've tried most of the alternatives and for me Surflon 49 strand wire in 20lb is head and shoulders above the rest for fly fishing traces.
