Default A couple of firsts

As the weather is so amaIng right now I took the kids for a ride along the River Colne today. Had my 7ft brook rod tied to the crossbar and with kids in tow we rode down stream for a few bends till there was a likely flat with some movement in the water. Bear in mind this would be my virgin cast on any river but not expecting to catch anything I put on a dry fly ( dunnovwhat type but I'll put a pic on later). With the wind at my back I made my first couple of upstream casts and got a take straight away, missed it mind but they kept coming and after no more than 15 minutes I had fish on! alasnot a trout but my first ever chubb!! No record breaker at Half a pound, bit you have to start somewhere. After talking to another local man walking his dog he assured me that there are trout in there, though they never get much bigger than your finger! Think today I have started the future of my fishing.

Thanks muchly. I've been hoping to catch one as a coarse angler for a couple of years without any joy, but cracked it today!

That's the fly that caught it, if anyone knows what it is I'd love to know.

Always nice to catch a fish!

I've been catching dace on the Seacourt Stream in Oxford in this lovely weather - not managed a chub yet, though.

Which bit of the Colne were you fishing? I've only every fished the stretch run by the Bull in Fairford - lovely when the water is at a good level.

Cheers,

Pads

Right here, though there are some other wonderful spots, slim channels, deep runs and it's a great walk from top to bottom, great access for casting too as there's a minimum of obstacles.
