Brown trout commonly have red spots - how many and how large varies considerably.

Brown trout can be have a variety of colour that is quite amazing, varying from black spots to brown to orange to vivid red spots, their bodies also can vary in colour, from brown to golden to yellow.
My personal view is it depends primarily on the trout's diet and how much sunlight it is subjected to. Darker the fish the deeper it lives for instance.

Depends on the lake, most of the wild ones near me have red spots. Also some fish can be more silvery in colour.

Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

It is generally accepted that trout in unproductive environments have a lot of red spots; those from relatively fertile waters have a few red spots; and those from top quality waters have none. Its a theory!
