Default Carp fishing Manchester/Chester

My son and his mates are planning a carp session based either from Chester or Manchester and I've been invited - well somebody's got to provide the transport.
Anybody know of anywhere that either allows fly for carp or has a mixed fishery (Not Pendle View)

Hi

I had a small thread on the general forums. Carp on the fly venues.
I found 3 commercial coarse fisheries in North Yorkshire after searching and telephoning round.
They dont like us, be warned!
See my signature.

Is it just you on the fly, or all of you?

Hi Bill1.

Ring Chris at Moreton Fisheries nr Congleton, Cheshire (01260 272839) he's a cracking bloke. It may be just outside your area but it is worth a go.

I was there on Wednesday fishing the fly and managed to hook and land 2 fish to 10lb on a Damsel Fly Nymph(more luck than judgement LOL). The water was a bit like pea soup and and on the low side but, there are so many large fish in the lake that it would be hard not to catch off the top. Be warned, some of the fish go to 30lb with a good head of 20s to boot.

You will be restricted to the main lake , which is a fair size, and Chris would prefer if you could go in the week rather than week ends (due to the Bivvie and Boilie Brigade. You know what they can be like when you cast into the swim they're fishing from 50 yards away).

Tackle wise I would take a #8 and fish a min of 9lb point. Take some floating dog biscuits and fish with either a DB or deer hair imitation.

You can also get a good cup o' tea and something to eat at the lodge.

Hope this helps.

Frithy

Hi,

The general impressions I got from phoning up various coarse fisheries in Lancs and North/West Yorkshire are
1/ They hire you a peg not a lake ( so your fishing more than one peg. Lost revenue!)
2/ They dont like wandering people
3/ They think you will catch more than the boillie/bivvie brigade. (brigade doesnt return, lost revenue)
4/ They think there will be an avalanche of fly anglers as soon as word gets out. (All of the above)
5/ They think you dont know what you doing.
6/ There insurance doesnt cover it
7/ Best reason of all " thee cannot fish ere lad, thee will catch too much and put the fishery off"

Some fisheries, Raygill for example will give you a warm welcome and his blessings to fish for his carp.

If you get them going with floaters (so I'm told) they rise very well. At the moment casting is quite easy as you wont have to cast too far to reach fish. In fact no more than 10 yds max. They are under your feet so a rol cast alomg the bank will cover fish. There is a spit of land that reaches out into the lake that if you speak to Chris there will be a good chance he'll let you fish off there.

When you are passing, drop in and have a chat to Chris. I'm sure he'll let you have a walk around the lake.

I feel the secret to this lake is midweek fishing when the crowds aren't there.

I fished moreton a couple of years ago with the pole but struggled to get a decent spot....blanked!

Is chris the big fair haired lad? If so he was friendly enough

Cheers
