Default shooting head for pike

Can anyone recommend a good shooting head to use for throwing big pike flies? I've an airflo running line sitting around so hoping I'm hoping to put it to some use. I'm after an intermediate or sinker.

I'm fishing an 9ft #9. thanks!

Either buy a mill end DT 10 and make your own (start at 36 ft and cut it down until it balances the rod and your casting ability) or ring up Steve Parton at Sparton tackle in Notts and get him to make one for you.

I'd go for the intermediate as first choice.

hope this helps.

If you don,t want to make your own then you could use Rio Max, Airflo and my favorite the Orvis shooting heads.

First you need a big rod for big lures and then all you need is a line to match it . And don't mess about with anything under an 11# weight for flies bigger than 6" long or shorter than 10' whilst you are at it !

The only problem I face these days is that line makers don't tend to make the 30 yard double Tapers in the big sizes anymore since the Salmon fraternity went nuts for weird Spey Lines - and cutting them things down into proper heads is damned expensive !

But if you want say 50 ( a minimum batch ) pm me and I'll get the job sorted . At Treade Prices

Best wishes

Steve P
