Talking New Roach PB

Hi Guys

Popped up the the Canal last night for an hour or so to play with my Vision 9' 5wt Cult and a Di7 line and some new tactics for Perch

However there were Roach every where ! But only small stuff 3"-5" catchable but i wanted to play with my Di7 .......untill i spotted a HUGE shoal of Roach 30-50 Roach all of them 8" plus an a few pounders too !

Quickly stuck my floating line on and 6' of 3lb maxima (heavy for roach ) i put on my size 18 Goldhead blood worm recently added a marabou tail as the movement drive the Roach crazy.

I moved some 20' from the big fellas and had a go at a group of smaller roach , basically just to get the line and fly nice and wet before i tried for the big boys.

This little guy fell to the improved bloodworm

Now i stalked the big shoal........... squatting by a wee bush a few gentle casts and i landed the bloodworm right in the middle of the shoal ! instant interest a 1lb plus Roach passed over it, ive found it best to strike any time the fly disappears as its either "in" or "under" a Roach.

I few false takes then another little flick strike and alll hell broke loose ! The still water in front of me exploded as the best Roach ive hooked went completely berserk white water every where and it tore off out across the canal a superb fight even on the 5wt a bit scary at times, i was very relieved to get it in the net

My new PB Roach next to 9' 5wt Cult and Vosseler Dc3, ive no idea as to what wieght ? But im well chuffted

Heres another picture of the same fish in my hand

Lets just say i shall be tying up a bunch of "improved" blood worms in size 18 and 20

Also got a Perch ...................not my biggest But there all welcome.

Fantastic fish. I get massive coarse fish angst reading your posts!

About to head south back to Cambridge for a month or so - determined to get some decent roach! Have you got a pic, or even an SBS of the deadly improved goldhead bloodworm?
