Default Coarse Fish in July - Starting at Luton

I have a few days spare after a trip to England (6th to 9th July).

Due to a lack of coarse fish where I'm from, I am looking to make the most of this opportunity.

My only plans in place so far are the pick up and drop off of a hire car at Luton Airport.

I'll have #3, #5 and #8wt set ups and my waders with me.

I'm hoping for some ideas from forum members - any great fly fishing rivers within 50 or so miles etc. I know 4 days isn't long but I want to pack in as much interesting and varied fly fishing as possible during that time.

I might spend a day fishing for Carp with crust/dog buiscuit immitations etc. but I want the opportunity to catch a couple of other species as well. I would love to target Chub or even Barbel.

Also, if anyone wants some company to fish their local patch, I would of course return the favour if you ever get to the IOM

The River Great Ouse is worth a look if you are after Chub and Barbel. The Angling rights are controlled by a large number of clubs. As far as I know there are only certain sections you can get day tickets for.
Best place to ask is the Local Angling club in Luton. Another river worth a look is the Ivel.

Sorry, can't be of more help.

Thanks Eddie,

I have had a good look at the link and there are a couple of day-ticket options.

It seems that the Ouse and the Ivel could well be the way to go but I am willing to travel a bit further if the fishing it good enough

Phil.
