This is a bit off topic as it wasn't caught on the fly but this was the best place I could think of to ask so here goes... Couldn't get up to my home water for some fly fishing yesterday so instead headed to loch long with a friend for a spot of float fishing. Fairly uneventful afternoon but as we were packing up this little tiddler came out on my line.



Neither of us have been able to work out what it was. We took a quick picture of it before returning it. The bloated face looked a bit concerning especially considering the proximity of the nuclear submarines in that water! Does anyone have any idea what species it was?

Excellent, thanks guys. I'm a complete novice so if it isn't a trout salmon or mackerel they all look new to me!

I should also point out that my experience of the above is also mainly limited to the fishmongers!
