Default To many flies to choose from

I'm still pretty new to fly fishing and I have no idea which flies to choose for any fish species. In the area where I live there's really only a few different species of fish to target. Panfish and Bass being the primary species.

The problem I'm running into is trying to find which flies to use for which species. I have a good selection of Adams, Royal Wulff, as well as a few terrestrials and assorted other dry fly's as well as Poppers and a few Clousers. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on which flies I should use. I've caught a few tiny Bluegill on chartreuse poppers but they were no bigger than 3-4". If anyone has any ideas on what the best patterns to use for big Panfish or bass would be I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

From the species of fish you mention I take it that you are not in the UK more likely in the USA?

Pan-fish will take most of the imitative trout flies, I've had good success with Pheasant Tail Nymph (PTN) especially with a yellow body but they quite happily take off the top and a Blue-Winged Olive (BWO) or Elk's Hair Caddis are good flies.
Small or largemouth bass? If you are fishing for pan-fish then you're probably in a stillwater aiming for largemouth. I've had good success popping a muddler minnow across the surface but you have find the right structures holding the bass. You can get specialist bass bugs, which are big and ugly and need quite a heavy rod to throw, including Frog/Mice replicas, but I have no more success with these than a muddler. Alternatively your clousers, wooly bu66er or I have found some grubs (waggle tails) light enough to throw with a fly rod (no weight) - though the purist in me struggles to reach for these plastic baits - but when needs must .
Regards
-A.
