Default Popping Good!

Even though I don't fish for bass, it looks like it could be a blast. Great film footage.

I'll be doing them in Andalucia Spain come September - We get over there every couple of years and I fish to them in the giant ressies that are a hour north of Malaga.
Apparently Franco arranged for Bass to be stocked all over Spain and they certainly flourish in the climate.
When I first came across them, I had the odd one on lures/streamers but mainly they followed without hitting - I didn't have any poppers, but tried boobies popped along the top and they went mental for them.
Needless to say big poppers will be on the menu in September, along with bread flies for the carp and nymphs for Barbel.
Maybe an Andalucian Freshwater Grand Slam !

What sort of weight# rod & line would you be using for that then? The popper looks heavier than the average pike fly to me, and the guy casts it a long way. Even allowing for the fact that he's an excellent caster, and I'm, well, not, I couldn't get it anywhere near that distance. It looks great fun, and kind of puts my summertime perch popping to shame!

The way I look at things is, if you can do it, I can do it. If you want to throw a line like the guy in the video, simply practice. I'm an above average caster because I toss a line in a park or schoolyard quite often. I'm now working on my offhand casting.

If you don't know how to double haul, learn how to. Before you know it, you will be as good as buddy boy.

Just bought some poppers off ebay, the trout love them in the summer at my fishery. Wish we had bass here

Hi,

I'm hoping to get over to Spain later this year to Malaga also. I mainly go sea fishing from the beach which is great fun with the beach caster or mullet fishing in the harbours.

Where do you go for freshwater fishing near Malaga?

Thanks
