Default Pound for Pound hardest fighter?

Hi All,

Which are your top 3 fish caught on the fly, would you say was the overall pound for pound hardest fighting? The ones that stick in your memory and keep us going back for more time and time again.

Mine so far are,

1. Blue trout
2. Mullet
3. Carp

Most tuna species would tow most other species backwards. I would say Tarpon put up a spectacular scrap as well.

Carp are turds in comparision.

Sea Fish : mackeral ( incredible on a single handed fly rod)
River Fish: Sea Trout

So far nothing else comes close to the above.
Have caught carp to 20lb on fly rods they are powerful and heavy but pound for pound nowhere near the above

Andy

Becks and Brown Trout

pound for pound, I'd have to say something in the Jack family. I haven't caught enough to say which one, but I've had almaco jacs, horse-eye jacks, and a couple others in the 12-25" range and they are incredible. They will zing off line faster than a salmon/steelhead/trout and they don't give up on a fight. I understand tuna are the same (just much bigger).

In freshwater smallmouth bass are going to be up there. They are more 'diggers' than zingers but they fight hard to the boat. Carp are bruisers on fly tackle and big athletic ones fight great (river living fish over 15 lb and 3'). But they are big. The same fish at 3 lb vs a 3 lb smallmouth is no comparison.

Thanks,
Rick
