Post Perch on the fly

Caught quite a few perch on the fly in various locations, but have never targeted them(apart from catching 20 or more during a slow day at Avington a few years ago), but as yet cannot decide wether to go down the nymph or streamer/lure route. Had a number on 6inch pike flies, but had dozens of follows on them too!
Anyone out there with advice on specific perch patterns and methods. By the way, a number of different venues all with good numbers of average sized perch are at my disposal

Big pheasent tail nymphs with a gold bead have caught me perch. They look good in the water, they could be mistaken for a large insect or a small fry. It all depends on how you work it

For me a size 10 or 12 Peter Ross on the mid dropper is often a "perch magnet" at this time of year; when drifting loch style - strange how they ignore the other 2 flies.

Default Eyebrook perch

How about this one? Caught on a size 12 olive buzzer from Eyebrook last month.

Generally though, gold head olive damsels are good and fry patterns even better.

Try this thread...
Best Perch 'Fly'.
and this one...
Perch
Lures/fry for big perch they don't get fat eating buzzers...you may get the odd one. I took a 2.5lb perch in winter on a bloodworm but I'd fished this lake times before and not caught any other big perch on the same pattern. When I fished sparkly big lures though I took 6/7 every session. This will get repeated on so many other waters...ignore the odd captures they will just confuse you. I have actually targetted these fish in various coarse venues not just had a few as a by product of ressy touting every session.

Good to hear that Dee, just tied a few chain eyed Clouser types on a 10 long shank, plan for some similar sized wooly buggers or similar. I plan to target them specificaly, not as you say as a by product of trouting(had plenty of them already)

If 'Stockies' get fat on buzzers then so do Perch.

Had this one on a black and grey spanflex buzzer on Rutland up at Old Hall a couple of weeks back.

As I was fishing a match, it was returned, no doubt to the relief of brave Dave, otherwise it would have been chapped and on the barby the next day.

Instead of weighing it therefore, I simply took the shot next to my size #9 Le Chemeau to give an idea of size before slipping it back.

Woolly ****** derivatives either with weight for top down or foam for bottom up presentation have gotta be the most reliable patterns.

As an aside, the Humungus has pulled up some huge perch at Carsington Water. Anyone interested in tracking down a specimen might wanna take a trip there and cruise the dam with a boat. There's always the chance of hooking of one of their monster brownies while you're at it...
