Default Pike on union cnal broxburn

I just read on the net somewhere that the Union Canal in Broxburn has had all the pike removed by electro fishing by the "powers at be".
Anyone know anything about this?

Does anyone have any experience of fly fishing on the canal in Broxburn?

Also plan to target perch and roach etc with the fly.

Cheers
Russell

Hi russel, huge shoals off roach between broxburn&winchburgh with perch beside them, as for the pike never heard anything about electro fishing, but if any pike were left the polls have got them now. cheers B

Not heard of that one, you would have to ask "why".
Catch a few on fly round about Linlithgow, not been at them this year, but as canal is so long, aint no logic in just electro fishing a small section for pike, as as soon as main predator is removed, others will arrive!

LOL,
Who cares!
Read through posts, looks like another urban myth!
Poles being blamed for electro fishing canal from edinburgh to falkirk?! think it might have been noticed somewhere along the line!
might give it a walk from linlithgow to philipstoun next week.
will let you know what goes on.
regards
bert

The lade at the union canal was elecrofished. This was done in order to do a smolt count.
in order to prove that British Waterways had not maintained the smolt screen to the required standard. I can assure you no pike were killed,or any other species for that matter.
As a result of this the smolt screen at the lade is to be replaced spring 2011
If anyone catches a smolt/parr on the union canal can they possibly pm me with the details.

Default poor little parr

if anyone reports catching a smolt /parr then the permits will go up like every other salmon river in scotland ?? better using them as pike bait only if they get deep hooked and bleed from gills and die !!
