Does anyone have any tips for tempting larger chub at this time of year?

I was having reasonable success on heavy nymphs, but have had nothing recently. It's especially aggravating because the coarse guys seem to be really cleaning up at the moment - so they are there, and clearly hungry!

Run a search here as it has been discussed. I normally use 2 fly set up. A heavy tungsten nymph on the point and unweighted on the dropper. Cast with a slow figure of 8 retrive. Sucess is dependent on a number of factors importantly the fish have to be there shoaled up otherwise you are just casting into empty water. If you don't get any hits then move on. Secondly use an indicator as my experience is that the takes are v. very subtle and you will miss lots of takes as you can't feel them (just for the record I don't like using indicators but for winter fishing they do really help). Lastly whenever I see coarse fishermen then I steer clear of them and their runs as my experience is that once they get the fish baited then they are more or less zoned into whats getting chucked into the water and ignore flies.
