Default Rutland pike from the bank?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it's worth trying for pike from the bank at either Rutland or Grafham?

And if so, what the best approach might be?

Thanks,

Matt

My brother fishes these along with Pitsford and a few others,it's strictly boat fishing. Now if you wanted to fly fish for Pike in the trout season, then that would be a different matter I guess.

Burnie

When you say strictly boat, do you mean you're not even allowed to try from the bank?

I fish for trout from the bank all the time (season ticket holder), and have begun to wonder whether it's worth having a go for pike now it's got so cold (and before the reservoirs close).

Hi Matt,
Still time to catch a fish or two ..At this time of year pike are migrating well into bankside shallows congregating en-masse in readiness to spawn, during February.
Females heavy with roe dominate.
Find where these or a few likely looking areas are~and enjoy some sport.
There are heavy fish to be caught mainly hens laden with roe...
There will a lot of noticeable activity.
The rigours of spawning takes it toll and from March onwards lean hungry pike are eager to take a bait.

Much depends on your fishing ethics as to whether or not you wish to pursue them after the middle of the month..But yes now is fine or until such times you start catching fish that are obviously ready to spawn.

Tight lines,
John

Thanks John (for this and your other replies)!

Sadly, the reservoirs are now closed, and I'm off to south africa - though looking forward to getting back to it after easter one way or another.

Matt
