Default perch in the Leicester area ?

I had a great day out on sunday at Eyebrook and picked up 4 trout plus a nice 2lb perch.

i now want to target some Perch over the winter period

Any body now any locations i can go to in the Leicester area other. The likes of Eyebrook etc are a bit over budget to manage every weekend not to mention a bit far. I was hoping someone might know of some coarse fisheries that will allow a fly rod

or some good river location

Thanks Chris

I've seen some huge perch in what i presume is the river Soar at Birstal. There is a very nice pub there, i think it's called the white horse, find that and you'll find the river. Beyond the pub is a small footbridge and if you peer over it, you might just see said perch. Worth a look.

Cheers

Just got back from probably my most successful fishing trip in the last couple of years...
Fishing a tributary of the Soar today, with Peter (Bakerlite) another furum member from Peterborough, we had nearly 70 fish between us in about 2 1/2 hours!
I had 26 perch and 16 chub just fishing a single fly, which I never changed(and didn't lose any flies either!), on my super ultralite 000 weight rod.
The lite rod got a severe testing as 5 of the perch were pound plus and the biggest around 2lb 8oz. Five of the chub were "proper" too going to approx 2 1/2 pound like the perch.
To see the river/brook you wouldn't think it would produce more than a handful of small fish...it's my new favorite local venue. It's so small I never cast once, well not a proper cast, just catapult casts did the trick...fishing is about more than 30 yard casts.
I'm not saying where this is on here as I don't want it going the same way as too many local venues where every perch/pike as been eaten...by you know who.

Hi Guys thanks for that, Cant wait to target some Perch now, Suppose now is the time for Chub i will have to have a look at that too.

Dave sounds like you had a grand day out! Tend not to get to many of them days.

Never targeted Chub before so that will be a bit more of a learning curve, had them whilst fly fishing for other coarse fish - i supposed its small lures and weighted Nymphs ?

Cant wait to get out, Dave i understand you reservations lets leave those lovely Pike and perch to be fished for.

Well hopefully there are many exciting Pike, Perch and Chub days for all of us over the winter i know i cant wait!

Offshore i will PM you

Regards Chris

Try the grand union canal in Foxton between the locks and A6 bridge some really good sized perch in there always catch a couple when down there on the pole not to bad for casting as well plus it is free.
