most of my dry fly fishing is done with either a shipmans or bobs bits.I think its sucess is due to the way it sits in the film (depends on how you gink it).Deadly on its day if its how the trout want them.My favorite colours are red orange dark claret and fiery brown

I have had a lot of success with a very slim version - one layer tying thread then bind in a small bunch of siliconised floating yarn protruting either end as breathers, tie in ostrich herl (blue dun or natural over tan thread seems to be favourite on my fishery in Yorkshire) ribbed with finest gold embroidery thread (lighter than wire!), tie off and form small head and it's done! Fish well on top or in film, either seems to work well, must be fished absolutely static.

yes it will catch but its not a shipmans ! E.O.
