If you look up the Blockoff Sale - Bloomsbury, I think the sale made around half the expected amount, and included some rare works.

Could be a time to buy though.

I'll sell you a Halford 1st Skues 2nd if you're interested.

I have bought several classic books and interesting titles at very reasonable cost in the last few months....

Gents, what do you put these lower prices down to?

Are there more of these editions on the market because a lot of old libraries are being cleared as the generations turn over, or because some of the old writers aren't as fashionable as they were, therefore not selling so well... or a combination of the above... or other factors completely?

Default F.M. Halford

My mother has a signed copy of "Dry Fly Entomology" by F.M. Halford. Apparently one was sold for £1,300+ back in the late 90's. Of course condition is EVERYTHING with books and unless a buyer is able to view at first hand it is impossible to get accurate price estimations.

I would buy F.M. Halford over G.E.M. Skues as there are fewer copies of his books on offer. Whatever you buy condition is absolutely everything, buy the cleanest brightest copy you can. A tatty book may only fetch a third of a tight copy, and it will only get rarer.
I think the drop in prices is down to a few factors. As Andy mentioned lots of people are skint, but also around this time of year most people are out fishing. Come winter time everybody's stuck in their house with little to do and the prices rise a little. JB
