Default Loch Fishing

Hello,
Can anybody recommend the "definitive" book on how to fish loch style from a boat? I am going to fish Lough Currane in August and have never fished this way before. Would like to spend the time between now and then swotting up on the subject.

I could recommend Dennis Moss.''Trout from a Boat.

Aaron just reminded me about Stans book.Recommended.

The Loch Fisher Bible by Stan Headley, it covers all you need to know, lines , time of season, flies, colours of flies depending on the weather, leader set up, drogues ......

There are a few copies on Ebay just now, worth every penny.

Aaron.

The two books mentioned above are as good as you will get .
when you get to Currane do take a ghillie for at least the first day ,there are some superb ones who will get you into fish ,and worth every penny!
Not the biggest of loughs but it is rocky and when the wind blows its hairy!

Thanks for the answers lads and yes Andy I have got a boatman. Wouldn't dream of going afloat without one. Don't know enough about the venue to risk it without one and don't know enough about the fishing either so will be relying him for advise etc. Will order them now from Amazon.

Spruce glad you have a boatman , another book you might like too source is Kingsmill Moores ,A Man May fish ,would not go on Currane without at least a few of his bumbles and a Kingmill for the point at times !
A visit to the Lobster bar is compulsory as well

The Art of Lake Fishing (with Sunk Fly), Newly from the Sea, Fishing in Wild Places by Sidney Spencer, are all very good on loch fishing for sea trout

To make the most of your trip you should also get out in a boat and practise the loch style cast and retrieve. There's an elegant rhythm to it that requires plenty of practice, as does the 'working' of the bob fly. Been looking for a suitable vid on utube, etc but drew a blank.
