Hi Loopy
Adrian is a member of the Leicestershire Fly Fishing Association (as am I) and I therefore have a (signed) copy of this book tucked away on my bookshelf.
If you are looking at spending you 'hard earned' on a reference book then I'm not sure how much this book differs from what you may already have. There is the usual sections on tackle, bank and boat fishing basics, etc.
However the one feature I like is that the central part of the book deals with examining the contents found by spooning trout, and the subsequent limited number of flies that Adrian has developed for himself to 'match the spooning' to coin a phrase.
This aspect of the book covers perhaps 10-20 pages plus 20 pages covering fly patterns/fishing hints. In a book of 190 pages does this offer enough to warrant purchase? Well, it did for me, even though I had heard Adrian talk on the subject. It's not a classic, but it's not bad either.
This link will take you to a write up of
Adrian's talk (2005) that I produced with his permission. The spooning samples are some of those featured in the book as are some of the flies shown (links at the end of the article). That should give you an indication as to whether or not to buy the book.
There, I've probably done the guy out of a sale now, should have just said "Yeh, it's great, buy it"
