Default Richard Walker: Biography of an Angling Legend

Does anyone have this book?
If so, what's it like & is it worth the £35 price tag?

Not seen it Steve, is it a new book or is that the E-Bay price?

Yes got it now. I think there is apiece in it where Rickards takes Walker to task on his comments about Tom Ivens and his distance casting tactics. Walker called them,"bone headed athleticism" yet adopted the same tactis himself at a later date.

I've got a copy but I didn't think it was very good. Richard Walker deserves a better biography than this.

In what way; was the book rather superficial or did it smooth over some of the rough edges?

It did both. Barrie Rickards even got Walker's widow to write tracts of the biography.

Tales of two fine lives on the riverbank - Times Online

The Times link (above) may be of interest. It sparked a fair reaction in certain quarters.

Well there are plenty of facts about Walker in the book but I'm not sure it reveals anything about him so I suppose it did appear slightly superficial to me. The last 100 pages comprise of personal recollections from his wife, mother, son and friends - more of a tribute. Not out of place in a biography but I would have preferred the author to have woven them into the story of his life. The book feels very disjointed to me.

I don't regret buying it but given the significance of Richard Walker to modern angling I was hoping for something better.

People who knew Walker would give a very different account of the man and his personality.
The book was published 50 yrs to soon.
