Default The Game Fishers Year by Charles Bingham

I know it's an older book but I've just finished it and thought some of you may be interested in it. Charles Bingham is a game fishing instructor his book follows a diary format. He uses short extracts from his own diary followed by his interpretation of what can be learned from this information. It covers the whole fishing calender from March through October. Ranging from Spring salmon fishing through trout fishing on lochs with sedges in June to Stockies in October. A large part of the text is angled toward the Salmon fisher of which there is a dearth of information. It prompts the angler to think of their own angling and how we should be interpreting information analysing the conditions in which each fish was caught to bolster our knowledge and confidence next time we are faced with the same situation. Although the format is re-produced for each chapter Charles is a very engaging writer and manages to breathe a life into each situation he tells of with a little humour. Gierach it is not but if you want an interesting read which will feed you with a lot of knowledge but does'nt read like a textbook this is for you. Not one for the romantacists but if you have a little interest in reading the weather/river/seasons/tackle this is for you (7/10).JB
Approx 90 scenarios of seasonal changes and diary exerpts.
191 pages
84 b + w Photos
12 colour photos
21 line illustrations

I am going to post some more reviews on here over the coming weeks if there is any extra information about a book you would like just holler. If want me to shut-up there are plenty of other threads!(just kidding)

I had a book by him on sea trout, which was a very good read and helpful.

I have this book on my fishing shelf as well, and agree with your overall assessment.

I particularly like the fact that CB does not seek to say rivers are better than lakes, salmon than stockie rainbows and so on. Whether it's reservoirs, small lakes, rain fed rivers, chalk streams, sea trout or salmon, he gets stuck in, gives it his his best shot, catches more than a few and offers sound advice. While some of the fine detail as you would expect is slightly dated, the outlines certainly still apply....
