Found a copy of Arthur Oglesbes Salmon in a box of books from an uncle who died a few years ago. Is the advice in it any good or is the advice sh1t.

it is not a book I have reread probably for some 15years,my copy is probably 30 years old as when I started salmon fishing I read everything I could get my hands on ,even then it was a little old hat ,Crawford Little was the cutting edge! The basic fishing tecniques are there and some good tales of the days of plenty.
I guess i would read once and maybe sell it on ,might make a £15 on ebay!

Andy sums it up very well, in those pre internet days you would grab any book that could be begged , borrowed, stole.

Admittedly I reckon I only read it twice which is well down the list compared to most others.

I guess the hard part to take is their stories are often based on waters that average joe wouln't be allowed to pee into

Friend??

Andrew's post sums it up: best taken with a 'pinch of salt'.

That young Crawford Little can write. His volume on Great Salmon Beats is worth a read.

Totally agree the bit that got me when reading a bit of it was how posh and upper class his waters were made me feel like a hillbilly.
